Moved On?
#1
Hello,

I assumed the takedown went ahead and thus stopped checking in here. So my apologies.

As many of us will have done, I have moved away from leap pads etc and onto other projects but I have been spiffing around in the background.

I've had my sights on the already well exploited and fairly documented playstation platform.

I'm interested to hear what projects others have been working on, as the kids outgrow the leap pads and onto more powerful devices.

I have not been doing much. Mostly just working, playing games etc. We ended up getting 4 chickens so that has kept us busy ha ha.

I am still hosting the site, but someone else took over the domain to keep it active. I check in here once in a while, but not too often.

It seems we both turned our attention away and the scene picked up some momentum, I remember is0mick had just got a port of Doom running as Proof of Concept, now it seems we have a retroarch build available!?

I've had some recent success unlocking (breaking out of the navigator app to PNADesktop.exe) a full functional windows CE on a few old Arm powered sat navs (fortunately many of the old one run win CE under it all.)

Nothing to write home about but i did manage to install a few apps so its not just an empty Windows 95esque desktop,
  • TCPMP (That's<>VLC for Windows CE), Windows Media Player CE and Nitrogen MP3 Player
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and Image Viewer (None of these can edit files unfortunately.)
  • Freecell, Solitaire and Bejewelled 2
  • Notepad, PPaint, RegEdit and RAR - You can't do much without RAR
I have got a version of GNUBoyCE to run and with WinCE GAPI installed the video is quite smooth with Frameskip:3
(the audio is so terrible, it makes you wish ears were never invented.)

Annoyingly the virtual D-pad is hardcoded(?) just off screen enough to be un-useable and as the device I have lacks any hardware input,
If you're careful with the stylus you can just about spam "A" into and through Professor Oaks intro.

But it got me wondering if it would be at all possible to compile/build a CE5 - 6 image for leap pad?
And that got me wondering if either of the mini linux's DSL or TCL could donate their desktop environment to pollux?

As new posts TAKE FOREVER to be approved I'll probably check into the IRC channel (which I think should be changed to #spiffyhacks) every now and then as the tinkering mood doesn't stop and it'd be nice to talk tech with someone, see you in there sometime?
