I'll try the Lodge update again tonight to see if anything changes. I picked it up at Walmart so it's as USA as you can get 
It did have a sticker on it that said "new for 2015". Maybe I'll go out to another store to see if I could find an older unit. You are right in stating this is a "plus" but I thought that just meant it came with rechargeable batteries.
