If anyone has a USA Innotab 3 v33.30621 and possibly still a warranty on the device in case something goes wrong, you can grab this firmware and try it out. Post if it works or fails

Plugged in the tab 3 and it updated the firmware. new version number: 43.31226

It seems it has completely changed how it records and adds games and books etc.

Screenshot HERE

notice the new folder called Appdata

I tried different programs in Windows to open them. In Notepad++ it shows what appears to be a mix of Chinese and Korean characters. I copied and pasted a selection to Google translate and those are what it 'recognized'
I was a bit alarmed that the translation to English contained words like rape, as well as some other like Acer Monitor. Mostly seemed to be random words.

I can only conclude that the coders started using Chinese characters at random to represent their encoding. I believe they are trying to circumvent efforts like ours to customize or 'hack' our tabs.Huh Exclamation

Anyway, have a look at the files I will try and get a dump a bit later of the update. perhaps it will help shed more light on the situation.

Also the Innopad_wf.db file seems to not be used anymore. I had added a couple entries to test whether I could get the system to recognize the other games and books. Didn't work. Also seems like the regular folders don't seem to contain anything but the *??*.ita files for games and books.

Now the pic and music and video folders seem to be unchanged, I am guessing because those are able to be changed by the child while using the tab.

More later when I can get a dump file.Big Grin

The appdata is a common folder used to store data from the games played on the tablets. This is nothing new. As for some of the "bad words", you could have been looking at a "bad words" list. I know the tablets store a list of bad words and possibly certain apps have their own list so they can reject certain words from being entered for profile names etc.

Innopad_wf.db was never used on the I3, only the I2s and I3s tablets. I believe the wf means wifi and only used for the wifi tablets.

Here is the .bin
I know the date is way off. Seems it is based off what the Tab has it set at. I didn't realize that my son had messed with it lol.

Here is a downloaded music file: Song
Notice the different extension. .vpm

Also here is the mounts.txt

This thread is for the Innotab 3, but the firmware is labelled as 3s. Just want to verify if this dump is for the 3 or 3s

Sorry about that I mis-labeled that. it is for the 3, not the 3S.

OK, so I played around with the Innotab 3 a bit today. Tried several different methods to get it to recognize any of the games or books etc from the Innotab_pack that I found on the web...
It seems that the update that the lodge did to the above listed version I posted, has pretty much changed a great deal of how the tab finds and uses such things.
Either it doesn't even recognize the *.db files anymore or the efforts I made were lacking. I spent time adding the UnitEID number which I got from the .mp3 files I had transferred to several of the .db files. Nothing seemed to be able to work.
I am thinking I may have to learn how to make a *.ita from the pack games and stuff. Anyone have an idea where to start? lol
Also, while the tab still recognizes the standard mp3 song, it seems the new format for the illustrated or video songs is now the *.vpm format, whatever that is.
Some of the games were flash games with a _run script attached. I had no luck with those either.
I did try out a couple of them in a web browser and they work fine.
That's about it for now. So lets hear some ideas or recommendations. Big Grin Confused Dodgy

if it is for a 3 then you should not need the UnitEID at all. If you updated via the lodge, the firmware will need to be patched again. I am in the process of doing that.

You can try this firmware for that version. Keep in mind this patch is not tested so take it AS IS and proceed with caution.

Thumbs Up
Ran the flash. It worked just as advertised. Resulted in this .bin

So there is the first test. Successful! Thanks DeakExclamation Smile

Now to get the other games working...

BTW: I took a few SS of me extracting the zip to my SDcard and then a couple shots of the file doings on the tab. LINK

Use em if you want. Big Grin
